surface noise (contra-volume) é uma escultura sonora que investiga a relação entre ruído e sinal. sinal é o som que se deseja ouvir e ruído é tudo que o entorno proporciona e atrapalha a recepção deste sinal. surface noise é um termo técnico sem tradução para o português para o chiado que resulta da fricção de uma agulha em contato com os sulcos na superfície de um vinil.
a partir de um disco 7" com uma composição sonora, foi tirado um molde que tornou-se matriz e foi reproduzido no toca-discos para criar uma nova composição. o contra-disco traz materialidade aos espaços que não foram gravados e evidencia o vazio entre os registros das ondas sonoras. girando em movimentos concêntricos e preso em diversos loops, uma nova composição de repetições é criada. o som da gravação original torna-se indistinguível, enquanto o ruído e o contato da agulha com a superfície da mídia se tornam o sinal principal.
surface noise (contra-volume) é a própria materialização da disputa entre o som produzido para ser ouvido e o espaço negativo que o conforma. uma operação sobre inversão e o apagamento do entorno, colocando o contra-volume não como um lugar vazio mas como um espaço que pode ser ocupado: o entorno como elemento principal para o volume existir no espaço.

surface noise (counter-volume) is a sound sculpture that investigates the relationship between noise and signal. signal is the sound you want to hear and noise is all that the environment provides and interferes with the reception of this signal. surface noise is a technical term without translation to portuguese and refers to the hiss that results from the friction of a needle in contact with the surface of a vinyl record.
From a 7 "record with a sound composition, a mold was taken that became a matrix and was reproduced on the turntable to create a new composition. the counter-record brings materiality to the spaces that were not recorded and shows the emptiness between the sound wave registers, spinning in concentric movements and stuck in several loops, a new repetition composition is created.The sound of the original recording becomes indistinguishable, while the noise and contact of the needle with the media surface becomes the main signal.
surface noise (counter-volume) is the very materialization of the dispute between the sound produced to be heard and the negative space that shapes it. An operation on inversion and the erasure of the environment, placing the counter-volume not as an empty place but as a space that can be occupied: the environment as the main element for the volume to exist in space.
